SCOUT EVENING AT HAWERA JAMBOREE FUND BENEFITS Many Hawera residents saw themselves in motion pictures last night. They were among the audience which attended the novelty evening arranged by the Raven company Scout troop at Hawera in aid of the fund for sending Hawera Scouts to the Melbourne jamboree. The movie programme, consisting of films taken by Mr. T. Lay and films obtained by him for the occasion was as interesting as it was varied. Athletics, golf, aviation and mountain scenes and sports were among the many subjects that the audience saw. There were views of the Australian athletes performing at Eltham, a slow-motion analysis of golf strokes by Bobby Jones, the famous golfer, Hawera gymnasts in action, lifesaving and other scenes at Opunake, scenes at the Waverley military camp, Miss Jean Batten’s arrival at Hawera, incidents during the visit of the famous monoplane Southern Cross to Hawera, the New Zealand ski championships at Mount Ruapehu, and scenery and ski-ing on Mount Egmont, including the Mount Egmont Alpine Club’s sports. The programme consisted of a haka by the Raven troop, a pianoforte solo by Mrs. P. O. Veale, a recitation by Robin Halloway, a banjo duet by Messrs. Antoni Bonetti and B. Watts, and a soprano solo by Miss E. Twaddle. Accompaniments were played by Mesdames Veale and Bonetti and music incidental to the films by Mrs. R. A. Graham.
