AIR TRAVEL LICENSES

TWO APPLICATIONS MADE FIRST UNDER NEW LEGISLATION. SEVERAL OTHERS CONSIDERED. POSITION OF THE AERO CLUBS. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wellington, Last Night. The first applications for aircraft service licenses under the Transport Licensing (Commercial Aircraft Services) Act, recently passed by Parliament, will be heard at a public sitting of the Transport Co-ordination Board at Wellington on Friday; Two applications have been received, one from East Coast Airways Ltd. and the other from Air Travel (New Zealand) Ltd. East Coast Airways is applying for authority to run a daily return service between Napier and Gisborne throughout the year and a summer service of two return trips daily for six months of the year. Air Travel (N.Z.) will apply for services on the West Coast of the South Island from Inchbonnie to the Franz Josef and Fox glaciers and from Hokitika or Greymouth to the Haast and Okuru glaciers.

Applications hav.e also been received through the New Zealand Aero Club from various affiliated clubs for special licenses enabling them to carry on commercial aircraft services for a period of four years. It is understood that several applications have been made for licenses for trunk services, commencing as far north as Whangarei and terminating as far south as Invercargill. These applications will probably be dealt with by the Transport Co-ordination Board early in the coming year.
