CRICKET CONTROL

NORTHERN DIVISION MATTERS. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS. A meeting of the management committee of the Northern Division of the Taranaki Cricket Association was held last night. Those present were Messrs. S. O. Jones (chairman), H. J. Abram (secretary), W, Beard, J. Quirk, E. L. Mason, Sarten, A. Clarke, P. S. Carroll, H. J. Larkin and H. R. Soffe. Difficulty had arisen regarding the provision of .a horse for work at Western and Sanders Parks, said the chairman. The motor-mower belonging to the Western Park Board was being repaired. It was uncertain when it would be available if required. It was decided that Mr. Quirk take steps to obtain a suitable horse for use one day a week in return for grazing on Sanders Park. Mr. Carroll mentioned the conflict of the resolution fixing the hours of play as 2 to 6.15 with rule 31. The chairman explained that the resolution was subject to rule 31, which provided that should a team be late in starting the non-offending captain had the option of claiming either the match or an extension of time. The matter could be left to the commonsense and good judgment of the umpires, said Mr. Quirk. , The scheme for the issue of honorary members’ tickets in Taranaki at a cost of £1 Is, a third of which would, go to the Taranaki Association, one-third to the division accepting the member and one-third to the club nominating him, was held over, for reference, to the original propounder to amend it as at present it involved the Taranaki Association.

“It Is undesirable to lose time in canvassing- for members,” said Mr. Larkin, “as interest in Cricket has been stimulated by the possession of the Hawke Cup.” The secretary was instructed to write drawing the attention of clubs to the rule providing for the enrolment of honorary members at a subscription of 10s 6d. The clubs will be asked to submit suitable names for the consideration of the association.

Mr. A. Clarke was appointed to arrange for games with a team from H.M.S. Laburnum, which will visit New Plymouth from December 4 to 14. The secretary was instructed to inform the clubs that ground fees should be paid by the Wednesday following the Saturday of collection.

Mr. Clarke was appointed to arrange for the coaching at Pukekura Park of the primary school pupils not already being coached. Regarding his proposal at the previous meeting concerning the revision of the rules, Mr. Quirk explained his idea was to appoint a committee to redraft the rules, copies of which could be distributed to clubs for approval before the next annual meeting of the association. D. Ayson was granted a transfer from the New Plymouth Club to the Western Park Club.
