GOLF TEST BEGINS
U.S.A. WINS TWO GAMES TO ONE.
FOUR-BALL MATCHES DECIDED.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.-Copyright. Rec. 11.40 p.m. Melbourne, Nov. 26. U.S.A, won two of the three matches on the first day of the test golf match with Australia to-day. Four-ball best hall games wete played, and there will be six singles to-morrow. D. Runyan and H. Cooper (U.S.A.) defeated V. S. Richardson and F. McMahon, 6 up. D. Shute and L. Diegel (U.S.A.) defeated M. L. Kelly and R. Stewart, 3 up. Martin Smith and E. Naismith (Australia) defeated Craig Wood and K. Y. Laffoon, 2 up. This is the first time in the history of important golf in Australia that fourball matches have been played. None of the players reproduced the quality of play in recent championships. America must win three of the six singles matches to-morrow to Win the contest. The four-ball game was not regarded favourably and little interest was taken by the public.
