By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 11 p.m. Melbourne, Nov. 26. Roman Catholics are eagerly awaiting the opening of the Eucharistic Congress on December 9. It is expected to bring thousands of visitors to Melbourne. An important event to-day was the arrival of the papal legatee, Cardinal Macßory, from England. Sixty thousand people welcomed him, lining various parts of the route from the port to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Archbishop Manmx led the welcoming party on the liner. The landing presented a spectacular scene,' the prelates wearing brilliant vestments. Cardinal Macßory drove in an open car, city police providing strong escorts, mounted on motor-cycles. In. St. Hilda road the cardinal’s car stopped outside the blind institute, where he conferred a blessing on a number of assembled inmates. On the cardinal’s arrival at the cathedral a special service of thanksgiving was held. A special feature of the welcome was the enthusiasm of mbre than 20,000 who participated.
