OAONUI MAORI WELFARE
LAST DANCE AND EUCHRE PARTY.
The Oaonui hall was packed for the last euchre party and dance held by the Maori Welfare League on Thursday, visitors being present from as far away as New Plymouth and Matapu.
Mr. Roach was master of ceremonies. Mr. I. Bishop played the dance music and Mrs. Mischefski, Rahotu, Miss Healy, New Plymouth, and Mr. J. Hooker, Opunake, played extras. Messrs. B. Davey R. Tito and W. Graham entertained with tap dances. A Monte Carlo was won by Mrs. C. Morere and W. Graham. Competitions were won by Mrs. J. Ehi, Miss S. Neumann, Mr. Leatherby and Mr. Gersley. Euchre prizes were won by the following: Ladies, Mrs. R. Waiwiri 1, Miss G. Bishop 2, "Miss V. Gordon 3, Mrs. R. Taraki 4, Mrs. Matipou and Miss Puketopu 5 equal; men, L. A. Bosworth 1, W. Thorpe 2, J. Hooker 3, V. Jenkins 4, T. Okeron 5. Supper was served by a committee supervised by Mrs. Tai Bishop. Personal and General.
kirs. Knofflock, New Plymouth, is spending a holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Knofflock, junr., Kina Road. Mrs. Hartly, Inglewood, was the guest of Mrs. T. Gardner, senr., for the Simpson—Gardner wedding. Mrs. T. Gardner, senr., entertained on Thursday afternoon. Results of the Oaonui tennis ladder matches this week were: Miss A. Dobbin challenged Mrs. A. MacDougall for third position and won 6—3; T. Tioko challenged R. Hunia for fourth position and lost 10—8; I. Bishop challenged Leatherbarrow for eighth place and lost 6—3; J. Morehu and Bosworth, junr., played for 15th position, Bosworth winning 6—4.
