NEW PLYMOUTH WINS

295 FOR SIX WICKETS HIGH SCHOOL MAKES ONLY 132. NASMITH MAKES GOOD CENTURY. By 163 runs on the first innings New Plymouth defeated School at the School ground on Saturday. New Plymouth carried its first day’s total to 295 for six wickets, while School spent most of the afternoon at the batting crease to make its 132 runs. School had lost one wicket for 76 in its second innings at the call of time. Nasmith scored the second century in New Plymouth senior cricket, making 102 in a partnership worth 186 with Davison, who was unfortunate to be run out when only five off the coveted total. Of the School batting the innings of Faris, 34 not out, was of most value. Johns also batted well for 29. Nasmith, 97, and Davison, 80, resumed New Plymouth’s innings and settled down quickly, Davison hitting two fours off Whittington’s second over. With the total at 269 (Davison 95), Nasmith called for a short run and a quick return found Davison out of his crease. The partnership had added 186. Nasmith passed his century in the next over and then was bowled attempting a big hit. Loewenthal and Purcell hit out and made 18 before Groombridge declared. School commenced disastrously, Davison taking a fine catch off Donnelly s first ball from Cropper’s bowling. Broughton went the same way, Davison taking another catch off Cropper. Waters was next to go, bowled by Ninkie, and three were down for 11 when T. Larkin and Johns stopped the rot and added 43 in a valuable stand. Larkin made 12. Faris was the next to associate with Johns and the pair added _ 22 before Johns succumbed to Nasmith at 29. Carroll added 13 but the remaining batsmen failed to make many runs, and Faris carried his bat for 34. With threequarters of an hour to go School commenced its second innings. Although Broughton went in the first over Waters 15, and Donnelly, 38, played out time. Details are:— NEW PLYMOUTH.
