ON THE OPEN RANGE
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB SHOOTING. CHAMPIONSHIP COMMENCED. The first stage of the championship of the New Plymouth Defence Rifle Club was fired on Saturday with 10 shots at 300 and 500 yards. S. Pruden was, in good form, putting on 48 at each distance. G. H. Taylor, shooting on Thursday in rather harder conditions, also scored well. Miss Bell headed the juniors with the fine score of 94.

Ideal weather prevailed for practice shooting on Saturday on the Patea rifle range, good scores being recorded. De-puty-President D. Roots made 49 off the rifle, Riflemen L. Davidson and N. Coad following closely with 48 each. A sealed handicap shoot for the Finlayson-trophy will be commenced at 300 yards next week.
