DEATH OF MRS. MOON

IN NEW PLYMOUTH FROM 1868. EARLY LIFE SPENT IN INDIA. After spending 65 years of her life in New Plymouth, Mrs. Mary Ann Moon, widow of Mr. William Trenouth Moon, died on Sunday at the age of 86. Mrs. Moon, who was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tunbridge, was bom in the Templemore Island military barracks near Bury St. Edmonds, where her father was stationed as a member of the 43rd Light Infantry. The regiment was ordered to India to take part in putting down the Indian Mutiny and Miss Tunbridge accompanied her parents, living in India until 1868.

In that year, when she was 21, Miss Tunbridge came to New Plymouth, where her step-brother, Mr. Townsend, kept a tobacconist’s shop. In 1874 she married Mr. W. T. Mobn, son of Mr. Philip Moon; Mr. W. T. Moon, who was a stonemason, died two years ago at the age of 87. There were seven children of the marriage, Mesdames W. B. Stephens (Sydney), M. Moore (Feilding), S. Barns (New Plymouth), A. Buckman (Pio Pio), C. Crutch (Hawera) and N. Julian (New Plymouth) and Mr. W. Moon (Hunterville). The late Mrs. Moon was a sister of the late Mrs. C. Tunbridge, New Plymouth.
