When using petrol or paraffin blowlamps in the garage for soldering or brazing operations great care is essential. A blowlamp will not give full sat- • isfaction unless the correct fuel is, used. There is a danger, moreover, if petrol is used in a blowlamp designed for paraffin only. It is highly dangerous to start either a petrol tor paraffin blowlamp from a coal or coke fire or a gas stove, as is sometimes done. When using a paraffin blowlamp it is advisable to clean the burner nipple frequently with a small cleaning needle supplied. The use of a pricker slightly larger than the bore of the burner will cause it to burn badly. When working correctly the blowlamp should produce an intensely hot bluish flame. Should the flame become unduly elongated it indicates that the hole in the burner has become enlarged, and the best remedy is to fit a new nipple.
