GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. Mesdames Nicholls, Corkill, Walker, Bell, Kennedy, Aheir and Mackie went to the first South Taranaki Guide rally at Patea with Misses Mackie (captain), Nicholls (lieutenant) and Pettigrew (tawny owl), 14 guides and seven brownies. Mr. H. A. Nicholls, Otakeho, lost a valuable bull and heifer over a cliff. The heifer survived the fall and was able to be driven home some days later. A large shark was stranded not far away. Messrs- Mackie and Bayliss and Master H. Bayliss secured five wild pigs when hunting at Hurleyville recently. Ensilage making is the order of the day in the district, several stacks being in course of construction and pits filled. The weather has been suitable, although rain would now be welcome. Mi-s. J. H. Thatcher is an inmate of the New Plymouth hospital. Mr. C. Des Forges spent the week-end with friends in the district. Miss Ivy Campbell is indisposed.
