SHIPPING SUFFERS

RESULTS OF TRADE SHRINKAGE. ORIENT MANAGER AT AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 12. Sir Alan Garnett Anderson, chairman of managers of the Orient Line, arrived by the Niagara to-day. He said two Orient ships would be coming to New Zealand with tourists. Commenting on the shipping trade, he said it was in a very bad way owing to trade shrinkage and the fact that Government subsidies had resulted in keeping in existence many ships which otherwise would be scrapped. This interference had been carried to such lengths as to upset the basis of commerce entirely. He understood the Governments principally interested in the Pacific trade were now actively discussing this problem.
