MURDEROUS ATTACK
WILD SUBURBAN AFFRAY CHARGE AGAINST A FISHMONGER. HIS WIFE’S EMPLOYER ASSAULTED BUILDING LIKE SLAUGHTER HOUSE By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Nov. 12. A wild affray in a suburban house was described in the Police Court to-day when Frederick James Jones, a fishmonger, was charged with assaulting John Henry O’Callaghan and his own wife, from whom he is separated, but who is O’Callaghan’s housekeeper. The police said Jones went to O’Callaghan’s house and had consumed some liquor and announced his intention of murdering O’Callaghan and his wife. Jones attacked O’Callaghan, who tried to defend himself. He was badly knocked about. Mrs. Jones attempted to separate the fighters, but Jones seized a walking stick with which he beat O’Callaghan so that blood spurted from O’Callaghan’s head. After much fighting Mrs. Jones secured a stick and attacked Jones. The stick was broken, and when the police officers arrived the building resembled a slaughter house, added the seniorsergeant. Jones was being held down by O’Callaghan and Mrs. Jones. Jones was sentenced to three months’ hard labour.
