Bennett, Mangatoki, on whose farm he was employed until his recent illness. Mr. Riley was 23 years of age. Most of the relatives reside around the mountain. There was a large gathering at the funeral, which took place at New Plymouth on Saturday. An unusual shortage of water is being experienced in the Mangatoki district. The few light rainfalls that have occurred recently did not put much water into the tanks. On Wednesday a thunderstorm with hail fell over a small area. Farmers generally are complaining of a lack of flush in the milking this season. There is ample pasture growth, which set in early, and the returns have been reasonably good, but the nyilk has lacked the cheese-making quality most desired.

The Mangatoki Cricket Club held a practice game at the week-end.
