WORLD’S OLDEST KNIFE

GOOD WORK AT SHEFFIELD. London, Sept. 27. The Sheffield press recently drew attention to what is said to be the oldest pocket-knife in everyday use. The knife, made in Sheffield, bears on its silver fruit blade the date 1780, and also the mark of Kippax, a master cutler of Sheffield. This man was a forbear of the Australian cricketer of that name. Sir Neville Wilkinson, the Ulster King-at-Arms, who is the owner of the knife, still uses it constantly, for it is in almost perfect condition. In company with its large steel blade and silver fruit blade, there is a small steel pen blade for quills, according to the usages and necessities of the day of its manufacture; and it also has a small steel nail rasp.
