RESERVE BOARD HEAD
GREAT SUPPORTER OF “NEW DEAL” ROOSEVELT’S NEW APPOINTMENT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 6.45 p.m. Washington. Nov. 10. President Roosevelt has appointed Mr. Marriner Eccles, one of Mr. Henry Morgenthau’s assistants in the Treasury, to succeed Mr. Eugene Black as president of the Federal Reserve Board. Mr. Eccles is classified as a political liberal and a whole-hearted supporter of the “new deal,” including its monetary features and its heavy relief spending programme. President Roosevelt accepted the resignation of Mr. Black on August 15 from the position of governor of the Federal Reserve Board. He will return to his former office of governor of the Federal Reserve Regional Bank of Atlanta. Mr. Black had long been opposed to the majority of Mr. Roosevelt’s monetary experiments and wished to resign.
