PARLIAMENT CONCLUDES
RESUMPTION IN FEBRUARY LEGISLATION TO BE PRESENTED. ASSURANCE OF ITS READINESS. DATE OF THE GENERAL ELECTION. By TeleDrapl:—Press Association. Wellington, Nov. 10. Assurances that the legislation to be introduced, that covering mortgage finance and the reorganisation of the Native Department and Native land settlement, would be ready when Parliament resumed on February 13 £ -d that no general legislation would be presented that would prolong the session were given by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, before the House of Representatives adjourned this morning. Mr Forbes moved t.iat the House adjourn till February 13 and tfcis was to Kfc E. G. R. Mason (Labour, Auckland Suburbs) Mr. Forbes assured members that the legislation the Government would bring down would be ready for presentation to the House and it would be put through with the utmost despatch. The legislation to be introduced would be the mortgage corporation and reorganisation- of the Native Department 'and land settlement. The most important legislation would be that of effecting a mortgage corporation. It was not possible- to deal with such far-reaching financial proposals in a hurried way. . Mr. Forbes referred to the most important measures that had been dealt with during the session and congratulated the Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. 7- G. Coates, on the way he had handled the Tariff Revision and Finance Bills and Companies Act. He said MrCoates showed a great deal of tact and ability in the way he presented those measures to the House. Asked about the date of the general election, Mr. Forbes said he was not in a position yet to state the date on which it would be held, but members would receive ample notice. Some smaller measures might be presented at . the autumn session, but no general legislation that would prolong the session. Mr. Forbes conveyed to members the season’s greetings. Mr. Savage reciprocated the Prime Minister’s greetings and the House rose at 12.15 p.m.
