TWO CENTURIES SCORED
WESTERN PARK IN THE LEAD HAWERA OLD BOYS UNDEFEATED BOWLERS GIVE GOOD DISPLAYS TJNDER perfect conditions Taranaki cricket competitions were continued on Saturday. Although the wickets were fast and in some cases favouring the spin bowlers, batsmen and bowlers shared the honours. The outstanding performances were those of F. Betts (Stratford High School Senior B) and L. McKoy (New Plymouth Old Boys Junior), who were undefeated for 116 and 105 respectively, while A. Ewart (Western # Park Senior)', joining a seventh-wicket partnership, played an invaluable innings for 85.
New Plymouth High School appeared likely to secure an outright win when it had half the Western Pa,rk team dismissed for 24, but a seventh-wicket stand by J. Carroll and A. Ewart allowed the team to secure only a first innings win. Lack of time prevented New Plymouth securing a four-point win against Old Boys. In the south Hawera Old Boys maintained its lead by defeating Stratford somewhat comfortably. By gaining an easy victory over Patea Kaponga held second position on the ladder with Hawera, which beat Power Board. In the country division Tarurutangi received its first reverse at the hands of Tikorangi, and Brixton beat Urenui in a low-scoring match.
