MEMORIAL TO COOK
GREAT VOYAGES OF DISCOVERY. AUSTRALIAN GRANITE OBELISK. (British Official Wireless). Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Oct. 16. A memorial to Captain Cook, whose notable voyages of discovery added a new continent to the British Empire was unveiled at his native village of Great Ayrton, Yorkshire. The memorial takes the form of an obelisk of Australian granite. The cottage in which Cook was born humble in circumstances has been reerected at Melbourne in connection with the centenary celebrations.
