PARK CROQUET CLUB
OPENING OF THE SEASON. WINNERS OF COMPETITIONS. ( 1 With the greens in perfect condition £ the Park Croquet Club at Hawera for- J mally opened the season yesterday in the £ presence of a large number of friends and visitors. Mrs. J. E. Campbell, the ( Mayoress, played the first ball of the £ season, and for the rest of the afternoon, despite overcast conditions and a j cold wind, a large number played in sev- j eral competitions. c The president of the club, Mrs. A. Mur- £ doch, welcomed the visitors -.gnd paid a ] tribute to the caretaker’s splendid work j with the greens. 'She hoped that all < clubs would enjoy good seasons and wel- I corned the honorary members of the Park club, who, she said, had increas- I ed materially. . s Congratulations to the Park club on its [ progress were extended by Mrs. Campbell. She understood it had a waiting t list. If that were so it spoke much for I its progress, as well as for the progress I of the game. 4 Bouquets made by Mrs. T. C. Hobbs were presented to Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. f Murdoch, the secretary (Mrs. J. Exley) t and Mrs. R. Chadwick. 1 Trophies of the club, including the Ex- , ley and Bennett and Sutton Cups and the , Hay Rose Bowl were admired. « The competition winners were as fol-*' 1 low: Crazy, Mrs. J.
