WAITARA HARBOUR
PROGRESS OF WORK AT MOUTH. MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD. * ■ — The monthly meeting of the Waitara Harbour Board was held on Friday night. Members present were Messrs. J. Hine (chairman), D. Wiley, H. Spurdie, E. C. Jones, J. Vickery, W. R. Johns and I. G. Prichard. The board adopted the by-laws in connection with the control of launch and speed-boats, which will give the board control of the pace of launches and outboard boats running on the river. The harbourmaster, Captain T. J. Wood, reported that during the early part of the month the fresh in the river removed both the sand spits from between the walls, with the result that at present there was a wide, straight channel with a good depth of water between the walls and over the bar. The amount of £lB 9s 6d royalty on stone and shingle was collected for the year ended September 30.' Mr. C. F. Dowsett reported that owing to floods ana unsuitable conditions the beach had been stripped of suitable shingle and large deposits of sand accumulated. Any progress with the erection of the wall therefore was seriously affected, so much so that only one block was completed during the month. Work was being done in an area where only a limited time was allowed before the rush of water necessitated suspension of the work. The secretary was instructed to write to several lessees who are in arrears with their rent.
