DETENTION OF SHIP
STATEMENT MADE BY JAPANESE. MISCHIEVOUS RUMOURS SPREAD. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 11.55 pm.. Tokio, Oct. 12. No official advice has been received here of the detention of the Yocine Maru, alleged to have been poaching in the vicinity of the Western Islands. Its crew of 24 and Captain Gomi have been placed aboard the Macdhui now en route for Rabaul, where they will be charged with breaches of the fisheries and quarantine ordinance of the mandated territory of New Guinea and also with being prohibited immigrant, a Sydney cable stated. The foreign spokesman said he had no official news. He feared, however, that the Australian rumours regarding the activities of Japanese vessels and mystery planes in north-eastern Australian waters were mischievous attempts to poison Australian-Japanese friendship.
