FERTILISER PRICES

RESELLING COMPETITION. RESULT OF ORDER-IN-COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Superphosphate is now available to farmers at £3 16s a ton as the result of reselling competition between dairy companies and merchants. It is stated there is no dispute between the manufacturers, whose prices to the trade remain the same—£4 a ton less discount. Price-cutting competition in the trade has been brought about by the terms of the Order-in-Council issued in July, according to a statement made. This fixed the maximum price in the North Island at £4 a ton and provided conditions relating to discounts and commissions which now prevent the manufacturers from fixing the’ retail price to the farmer.

Under these conditions the dairy companies have been able to cut prices by foregoing their trading margin. The move has been followed by some merchants, but a meeting will be held next week to discuss the position.
