Quite an amusing new crijze has started in London—that of indicating your favourite pastime by brooch or hat-clip. If you see a girl wearing an exquisite little model of a hound or a horse in the form of a brooch, you can be fairly sure that she is of the riding and hunting type. The tennis-fan chooses a tiny gold model racket, the river girl a miniature oar in silver or platinum, the keen dancer a little silver slipper,.the golfer a miniature club, and so on. The most interesting development of the “sign jewellery,” however, is the “cocktail bracelet” made of slender links of gold from which dangle, as charms, a number of miniature bottles, complete with labels to indicate their cheering contents. I have seen these bracelets at cocktail parties, but I should not like to say that the charming girls who wore them have chosen cocktail-drinking as a permanent hobby. Back to, Eve ? From the fashion dictators of Paris comes the tidings that we are to have revolutionary changes this winter in feminine attire. Whether women in other capitals will toe the line remains to be seen. Paris, at any rate, is out to kill that schoolboy silhouette. Dress designs for the winter are to conform to the classical lines of the' Venus de Milo, with generous hips and bosom, and sloping Victorian shoulders. But, by way of contrast, the colour scheme is to be equatorially exotic in its vivid riotousness. And red hair will be almost compulsory! At intervals we get these sensational announcements from the Rue de la Paix, and usually nothing very thrilling ensues. There are limits even to the follies of the ultra-fashion-able feminine mentality. I cannot see our conscientious platinum blondes all going red-headed in a night, --
