TRAINING OF POLICEMEN
DEPARTMENT SEES NECESSITY.
REOPENING OF DEPOT CONSIDERED.
(By Wire— Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night.
The Government has not yet reached a decision concerning the reopening of the police training barracks at Wellington. It was pointed out by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. W. G. Wohlmann, in his annual report to Parliament that it was hoped circumstances would permit of the reopening of the depot early m 1935. “Constables appointed since 1930 have been given such training as could be given them at the stations to which they were appointed,” he said, “but in view of the increased, ratio of constables who have not had the benefit of depot training it is becoming increasingly desirable that future recruits should receive the very necessary grounding in their duties. That can best be given in a training depot.”
