MAIN HIGHWAYS' ESTIMATES
MAINTENANCE AND CONSTRUCTION WORKS IN OHURA COUNTY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Ohura, Sept. 12. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Ohura County Council the following estimates for 1934-35 foi- maintenance and construction work in the county, as prepared by the Mam Highways Board, Were submitted by Mr. L. May, chairman of No. 6 District Highways Council: Stratford-Taumarunui main highway, £5OO, £3 for £1; Pio Pio-Tatu main highway, £5Ol, £3 for £1; Okabukura-Ohura main highway, £402, £3 for £1; Okahu-kura-Ohura Road (flood damage), £5l, free grant; Matiere-Okaroa Road (metalling), £l2OO, free grant; Okahu.kura hill (top dressing), £7OO (local authorities’ proportion recoverable), free grant. The engineer was instructed to forward the plans and specifications of the various works to the chairman of No. 6 Highways Council, and where money was op a subsidised basis to apply for free grants. The engineer was also instructed to notify the Highways Council that the county council could not find money for the construction of the Tokirima stream bridge and the Tokirima stream culvert. It was decided that the Public Works engineer be asked to use his best endeavours to have a sum placed on the supplementary estimates sufficient to metal Waikaka Road from the junction of the Whenuakura Road to the junction of Mungakaikatea Road.
