WAITARA CYCLE ROAD RACE
OLD WINNER; WILEY FASTEST, The Waitara Cycle, Athletic and Axemen’s Club held the third of a series of five races for the Yardley Cup and a medal yesterday afternoon. The race was from Waitara to the Waiongona railway crossing, back through Waitara to the Motunui hall and back to Waitara, a distance of 29 miles. There were five starters, B. Old winning by about 150 yards. For second place E. Oliver and E. Bowen fought out a great finish, Oliver gaining second place by a few inches.
Details are:— B. Old (7jm.), Ihr. 21m 1 E. Oliver (4|m.), Ih. 18m. 20s. ...... 2 E. Bowen (6m.), Ih. 19m. 50s 3 Also started: M. Wiley (3m). L. Drinkwater withdrew at Waitara on his return from Waiongona. The fastest time was gained by Wiley. CLUB’S EUCHRE PARTY HELD. At the fortnightly euchre party under the auspices of the Waitara Cycle, Athletic and Axemen’s Club was held on Wednesday night. The prizewinners were: Ladies, Miss Paltridge 1, Mrs. Faigan 2; men, Mr. Fabish 1, Mr. A. Keith 2. The aggregate prizes for the series of six nights were won by Mr. R. Neil and Mr.' Giddy.
