O FOR DAIRY INDUSTRY
PROPOSALS OF COMMISSION CONFERENCE HELD WITH CABINET MEMBERS EXPLAIN THEIR VIEWS. LEGISLATION UNDER PREPARATION. (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. Members of the Dairy Commission conferred with Cabinet this morning concerning the recommendations which have been made to the Government for the rehabilitation of the dairy industry. The discussion centred on the legislation Which the Government proposes to bring down this session and the members of the commission explained their views on the necessity for urgent action. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, said later that the legislation would be prepared as soon as possible. The material was now in the hands of the law draftsman, and as soon as the Bill had been framed it would be revised by Cabinet and in its final shape brought before the House of Representatives.
“The Government realises that the present condition of the dairy industry cannot be allowed to continue,” said the Prime Minister, “and it is of paramount importance that remedial measures should be taken this session. The legislation will be comprehensive and it is just possible that it will be necessary to prolong the session somewhat to put it through.”
