Good work is being done in the.Aotuhia district by the Unemployment Board’s subsidised pig hunter, and 411 pigs have been killed during the past four months. The work is very arduous and often dangerous, as many of the large boars do not hesitate to attack the hunter when cornered. The most ambitious attempt ever made by a motion picture studio to bring an adventure story to the screen has just been completed with the filming of “Tarzan and His Mate,” which commences at the Plaza Theatre to-day. This picture, featuring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O’Sullivan, is a thrilling picture of the jungle. The experience of Johnny Weissmuller appears to prove conclusively that stardom in movies counts more than all the crowns of sports glory which could possibly be placed on a single man’s head. Weissmuller was great in the sports world beyond any other human being. His latest and by far the yiost notable success is that of his remarkable performance in “Tarzan and His Mate.” From the very beginning one is held in suspense and not until the very last scene is one lost for thrills. The notable supporting cast includes many players remembered for their roles in “Tarzan, the Ape Man,” including Neil Hamilton, Forrester Harvey, Doris Lloyd, of the original cast, and Paul Cavanagh, William Stack, Desmond Roberts.
