CO-OPERATION REQUIRED
MARKETS OF FRUITGROWERS. CONFERENCE OF FEDERATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 12. The Fruitgrowers’ Federation conference was opened to-day by Mr. W. J,. Polson, president of the Farmers’ Union. Addresses were also given by Mr. K. J. Holyoake and Mr. H. M. Campbell, M.P. The federation president, Mr. Branch, who presided, said that the present times were difficult because of the lack of coordination between individuals and between nations. World planning was undoubtedly needed, but certainly not in the way of trade barriers.
Primary producers in New Zealand could help to bring about an improvement by establishing among themselves a real co-operative ideal. He said the financial position of the federation was steadily improving. Adequate provision had been made for bad and doubtful debts, and the directors had again decided to transfer to the credit of growers in a rebate account 50 per cent, of the net profit.
