NORTH ATLANTIC AIR ROUTE
OBSERVATIONS BY FLYING BOATS. FLIGHT TO GREENLAND PLANNED. (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Sept. 11. Two large flying boats are preparing to leave Mountbatten, Plymouth, tomorrow on a training cruise to Greenland. The first stage of the flight will carry the flying boats by way of Oban to the Faroes, a distance of 750 miles. On the second day they will fly 500 miles to Iceland and on the third day, provided the sea is sufficiently clear of ice, the remaining 400 miles to Greenland. During the night observations will be made with a view to planning an air route to America by way of the North Atlantic. Each flying boat will be manned by a crew of six.
