TRUST COMPANY INTEREST

APPEAL MADE TO MINISTER. QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Rev. Clyde Carr gave notice in the House of Representatives to-day of his intention to introduce the Timaru Milk Bill. The Gaming Amendment Bill was received from the Legislative Council and read a first time. The Rev. Clyde Carr asked the Minister of Finance whether he was taking any steps to conserve the interests of debenture and bondholders in the various companies dealt with in the interim report of the Companies Commission. Members, he said, were being besieged by constituents whose interest payments were being withheld. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates in reply said the Act placed no restriction and imposed no penalty on remittances of money within New Zealand, and if the company had funds in New Zealand properly available for the purpose there was no reason that he was aware of why interest to New Zealand debenture-hold-ers should not be paid if it was due. Mr. Carr asked if the Minister would do anything to help people to get their interest, but Mr. Coates -did not reply.
