WOOL SALES AT LONDON. London, Sept. 11. Wool available for the sales on September 18 totals 231,000 bales, including 85,500 new arrivals, of which 41,500 are Australian and New Zealand. The offerings will probably total 126,500. MARKET UNCHANGED. GREASY MERINO 16{d AT SYDNEY. Rec. 9.50 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 12. At the wool sales to-day 5971 bales were offered and 5132 sold. Also 939 bales were sold privately. The market was without change with Japan, Yorkshire and the Continent being the chief bidders. Greasy Merino fleece sold to 16Jd for five bales from Gloucester and 17 from Tumut. GOOD SALE AT FRANKTON. HIGH PRICES FOR BEEF CATTLE. Hamilton, Sept. 12. Perhaps the best sale recorded in thd Waikato district for many years was held at Frankton yesterday, when all markets showed a decided increase on late quotations. Ox beef sold up to 28s per 1001 b, and in some cases up to 30s. Four animals sold for £l2 7s 6d each, the best price obtained for beef for some years. A rise was also noticeable in cow beef which made up to 25s 1001 b, the top price being £lO 14s, also a record. Prime fat wethers increased to 31s 6d, heavy fat ewes to 27s 6d, and first spring lambs made 365. DAIRY MARKETS QUIET. NO INCREASE IN QUOTATIONS. There is no upward tendency at present in the dairy produce market, and agents’ reports are:— Anglo-Continental:—Butter, quiet, 76s to 78s; cheese, white 48s, coloured 455. Samuel Page and Son, Ltd. FIRST QUALITY VALUES LOWER. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., reports having held the second opossum skin sale of the season at Wellington on Thursday last, when a large catalogue of all grades of opossum skins, mostly from Wellington, Wairarapa and Manawatu districts, was offered. A full bench of buyers was present, but their offers for firsts and supers were below the firm's idea of values and passings were frequent. Seconds and thirds, however, sold at very satisfactory prices and in most cases were better than at the last sale on August 9. Following is the range of prices offered at auction without, in many cases, business resulting;— Greys 3s 2d to 6s 9d, rusty 3s to 6s 4d, blues 2s lOd to 7s, blacks 2s to 6s, red black 2s to 4s, brown 2s 4d to 5s Id, redneck 2s 2d to 4s Id, moles grey 2s 5d to 4s Id, moles dark 2s Id to 2s 6d. from the Akatarawa district, was passed at 6s. BEEF PRICES ADVANCE. GOOD DEMAND FOR PIGS. There was a large attendance of farmers and buyers at the Taumarunui stock sale on Tuesday, the yarding including 250 pigs, 100 head of cattle and 58 hoggets. There was a keen demand for pigs and beef prices showed an advance of several shillings on late rates. Dairy cows, too, showed an advance in prices, and several cows in milk and early calvers made up to £4 7s 6d. A lot of interest was taken in the sale, and buyers were present from Raetihi - , Te Kuiti and Ohura. There was a fair yarding of light fat beef and it was. evident from the bidding that the local butchers were shert of beef cattle. The following prices were realised at the same:—Pigs: Weaners, 6s, Bs, 8s 6d, 10s 12s, 13s, 15s 6d, 17s to 17s 6d; slips, 13s,’ 15s to 17s 6d; porker, 235, 245, 26s to 28s. Sheep: Wether hoggets, 15s 2d. Cattle: Fat cows, £2, £2 12s 6d to £4 ss; fat heifers, £2 17s 6d; fat bullocks, £4 Ils; run cows, £2 ss; store cows, 30s; two-year-old steers, £2 4s; yearling heifers. 25s to 30s; dairy cows, £2 to £4 7s 6d. MATIEKE STOCK SALE. There was an average yarding of cattle and a good attendance of buj’ers at the last Matiere stock sale conducted by Messrs. Dalgety and Company. Beef cattle showed an advance on late rates, and pigs were in keen demand, weaners (small) making up to 14s 6d. The following prices were realised: Heavy fat cows, £5; light fat cows, £3 7s to £4; Shorthorn heifers, £2 18s to £3 15s; m.s.
