PERFORMANCE IN EVENING.

AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS.

Again at the evening session of the twenty-fourth annual Presbyterian spring flower show in the town ha there was an excellent attendance. Visitors were present from many parts of South Taranaki, and they spoke highly of the standard of narcissi blooms and cut flowers. . . The miniature rock gardens, m which there was strong competition, were greatly admired. An exhibition of beach rock plants was exhibited by Mr. L. S. Mackie, displaying native plants found in the North and South Islands. The side-shows— hoop-la, rifle gallery, miniature golf and Aunt Sally-were well patronised. Tlie show on the whole was an outstanding success and reflected credit on the organisers, especially the secretary (Mi*. G. Meuli), whose efficient work was largely responsible for the success of the show. An excellent concert programme was presented by local and visiting artists later in the evening and was much enjoyed. Features of the evening were the sketches and items presented by Mr. Silver and troupe, Eltham, also the mock court presented by the Auroa Dramatic Club under Mr. Fairbrother’s guidance. Personal Items. Mr. J. Dunn and family, Auckland, have arrived at Manaia and will take over the Commercial Hotel. Mr. Kane, Government auditor, is on his annual business visit to Manaia. Euchre and Dance Social. The final of the euchre and dance socials in aid of the parish funds was held in St. Patrick’s hall on Monday night. There was an excellent attendance considering the boisterous weather. Euchre prize-winners were Mrs. B. Ruskin 1, Mrs. Duce 2; Mr. R. Russell 1, Mr. H. Dalton 2. Points prizes for the series went to Mrs. B. Rushin (36J games) 1, Mrs. Merrie (32.1) 2; Mr. A. G. Jones (35 games) 1, H. Jeremiah (33 games) 2. Swiss cards were won by Mrs. P. Zinnerman 1, Mrs. Leuthart 2; Mr. M. Satler 1, Mr. K. Hermann 2. Excellent dance music was supplied by the Swiss orchestra, with extras supplied by. Mr. M. Whalen. A Monte Carlo was won by Mr. L. Martin and Miss V. Mourie. A lucky hat competition was won by Mr. Spurdle and another competition by Mr. B. Julian. Supper was served by a committee consisting of Mesdames M. Brown, F. Nelson, J. Hornby and E. Winters. Mr. L. Hughes was master of ceremonies.
