GOOD BLOOMS AT HAWERA

WEATHER AFFECTS SHOW ANNUAL ST. MARY’S EXHIBITION. ENTRIES HIGHER THAN EXPECTED. Although the weather for the past three days has been the worst possible for spring flowers, there was an excellent exhibition of daffodils and cut flowers at the annual show of St. Mary’s Anglican Church which began at the Hawera Winter Show Buildings yesterday. Entries totalled 504, which was very good considering the conditions. Last year the figure was 616 and the year before 791, the average previously having been about 500. The features of the show were the decorative work, the champion bloom, a lovely long trumpet exhibited by Mr. A. E. Linn (Normanby), and the schools’ section in which good displays of spring blooms were made by Okaiawa and Normanby schools. The whole display was attractively set out in one end of the long show building, with numerous stalls and side-shows at the other. There was a good attendance all yesterday. A musical programme is being given continuously by piano soloists and a radio-gramophone. The artists assisting during the two days of the show are Misses J. Dix and J. Thomas and Messrs. Davey, G.
