STEPPED OFF MOVING TRAIN
AUCKLANDER FATALLY INJURED.
DAUGHTER ALSO SERIOUSLY HURT.
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Auckland, Last Night.
Through stepping from a moving tramcar in Upper Queen Street to-night an elderly man, C. P. Shepherd, suffered fatal injuries and his daughter, Mrs. Meale, was seriously injured. The tram had pulled up at a stop below an intersection and when the vehicle was again under way Mr. Shepherd and then Mrs. Meale stepped from it. It is stated the car had travelled about two lengths when the two passengers stepped off. Mrs. Meale was picked up some distance farther down the street than her father. Both suffered injuries, Mr. Shepherd dying about an hour after the accident. Mrs. Meale later regained consciousness but at a late hour her condition was reported to be fairly serious. A tragic feature of the accident is that Mr. Shepherd's wife is at Wanganui and Mrs. Meale’s husband is at Coromandel.
