HAWERA TRAINING TRACK

■ LITTLE WORK DONE YESTERDAY. : THE CONDITIONS UNPLEASANT. ,’ Owing to the inclement weather conditions there was hot a great deal of important galloping done at Hawera yesterday morning. A southerly gale made matters very unpleasant; while frequent showers further hampered training oper'ations. ; All gallopnig was. on the trial grass, ■which’ was extremely fast down the back ■stretch, but slow in the straight,’ where the horses found great difficulty in making headway. Taitoru (Edgecombe) scampered overthree furlongs down the back stretch from the five-furlopg peg in 38s. He worked nicely.

A similar task was apportioned Colossal (Edgecombe), who left the distance behind in 38s also. However, he was not going as comfortably as Taitoru. Aga Khan (Robinson) and Diagano (Vaughan) were not asked to do their best to register lm 23s for six furlongs. The first half-mile occupied 53 l-ss. Gold Gleam (Simpson) and Harvest Moon (Cotter) were associated over half a mile down the back stretch from the six furlongs. Gold Gleam held a length and a-half advantage at the close in 50 3-ss. Gold Gleam recorded his best effort of late and is improving rapidly. Harvest Moon did not begin as smartly as usual. Autumn Leaf (Vaughan) sprinted three furlongs from the- six-furlong peg in 38 l-ss. He hit out boldly. Benedictine (Conway) did the last six furlongs of a round in lm 25’/aS. He was going comfortably throughout and had plenty in reserve'at the close. Richfield (Vaughan) and Silk Sox (Feasey) were sent half a mile from the six-furlong mark. Silk Sox had the best of matters all the way to be slightly in front at the close in 50 l-ss. As usual Silk Sox worked well. He is to contest the Moutoa Hack Plate on the second day- at Wanganui. Richfield continues to put plenty of dash into his galloping.

Among those to be given useful pacework were Flower Bag, Beau Star, Rose Ray, Ingenuity, Sandlark, March Alone, Green Linnet, Crennatown, Eara, Friesland,- Lowenberg, Link Divine, Fairfax, The Tiger, Carfex, Colossus—Miss Gallant gelding,- Colossus—Lady Eglentine colt, Nigger Minstrel filly, Exquisite, Mint Leaf gelding and filly, Acre colt and Kiosk filly.

Rose Ray is suffering from a slight cold; and her trainer, R. • Brough, has decided against taking her to Wanganui, She will be eased up until she recovers.
