WEDDINGS
BARKER-THORNE GEORGE. A wedding of interest throughout the Dominion was celebrated at St Mark’s Church, Remuera, last week, when Miss Annette Thorne George, eldest daughter r of Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Thome George, Remuera, was married to Mr. Walter Denzil Barker, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barker, Gisborne.
The bride,, who was given away By her father, wore a graceful gown of corded vellum taffetas swathing her figure and sweeping out in a long train, which had a silk organdie and lace 'uche underneath'the hem. The bodice was simply cut; tight-fitting and'buttoned,'arid- had two small, panniers which joined,, the winged train. Her vellum toned tulle veil flowed out softly io form another long train, and was held in place with a halo'of fresh flowers; She carried a* garland of., white .roses, lily of the valley, hyacinths and clivia lilies. The six bridesmaids, were the Misses Barba’ra and Alison Thome George (sisters of the bride), Rosemary Waller (cousin), Betty Kelly, Sidney Thome 'George (sister),, and Diana Humphrey (niece of the bridegroom). • Their frocks were fashioned of Persian briar • corded taffetas with becoming collar bands coming high up to the throat in front and following a shaped line at the. back of the neck, where it widened out to foriri a softly gathered turnover collar? The skirts were made with knife pleats, which formed a point at the back of the waist ending in a slight train, and caught up to make an uneven line in front. Haloes of clivja lilies were used, as head-dresses, and armfuls of fresh flowers were carried. The bridegroom was attended By Mr. Norman Loisel, of Gisborne, as best man. The groomsmen were Messrs. Gordon Gregory (Gisborne), Peter Savage and Bud Maude. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s parents. V ■ ;• .
KING-OLD. 4 • The .wedding was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, New Plymouth, on Thursday, of Mavis Muriel Jean, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Old,' Tarurutangi. to Henry, .youngest, son of Mr. and. Mrs. W, King, New Plymouth. The bride, who was . given away by her father, wore an ankle-length model frock of white lombard crepe, with lace corsage. She wore a veil, and carried a, sheaf of lilies, and orange blossoms. The bridesmaid, Miss Irene Old (sis-, ter of the bride) wore a frock, of pink . elephant skin, with, hat to tone, and her bouquet was of freezias.and grape hya-. cinths. t Misses Esma and Gracie Old made dainty flower girls in lemon and blue georgette respectively, carrying posies of primroses and forget-me-nots. Mr. J. Rowan was best man.
A reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Old was attended by 50 guests. Mr. C. Old, grandfather of the bride, was present.
