APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY
TRANSPORT CO-ORDINATION BOARD MR. A. J. CONWAY’S EXPERIENCE. (By Wire —Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. The appointment of Mr. A. J. Conway, Wellington, as secretary of the Transport Co-ordination Board, was announced tonight. Mr. Conway, who will assume his new duties on Thursday, has for many years been a member of the Ministerial private secretarial corps. During the war he was one of the secretaries of Sir James Allen, Minister of Defence, and later was attached to the late Sir Maui Pomare, the Minister of Health (the Hon. J. A. Young) and other Ministers. Since the formation of the Coalition Mr. Conway has been one of the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates’ secretarial staff, dealing with all questions coming under the administration of the portfolio of transport, which the Minister holds. The experience Mr. Conway gained in this capacity will be of valuable assistance to him in his new position. A private gathering of members of the secretarial corps was held in Parliament House to-night tc farewell Mr. Conway and wish him every success in his appointment. The gathering was presided over by Mr. F. D. Thomson, permanent head of the Prime Minister’s department.
