FULL NAVY STATUS GRANTED
RIGHTS OF ROYAL INDIAN MARINE. BILL PASSED BY PARLIAMENT. (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Sept. 7. The Indian Navy Discipline Bill, which has now passed through both Houses of tire Indian Parliament, gives the full status of navy to the Royal Indian Marine and provides that the discipline of the force shall be regulated as in the Dominion navies by the British Naval Discipline Act, suitably amended to meet local conditions. The Royal Indian Marine is the oldest service in British India, going back to the formation of a squadron in 1612 by the East India Company for protection against European rivals and Indian pirates. During the Great War its ships and personnel were absorbed into the Royal Navy. In 1926 it was decided to reorganise the service as a combatant force. It consists at present of five armed sloops, of vzhich one is under construction, two patrol vessels, surveying .ships and a depot ship. The administrative task of reconstruction has already been finished and the necessary Imperial Act passed by Parliament in 1927.
