DROWNING GREYMOUTH
FISHING STEAMER STRIKES ROCK. DECKHAND THROWN OVERBOARD. By Telegraph—Press Association. • Greymouth, Last Night. John Mayne, aged 27, was drowned at 4 p.m. yesterday when the fishing steamer Nile struck the rocks at the Greymouth bar. Mr. Mayne, a deck hand, went overboard with gumboots on. A line was thrown but he was unable to grasp it, being taken to sea by the current. The Nile reached the wharf under her own steam with a damaged propeller. Mr. Mayne leaves a young wife and one child.
