SEQUEL TO “HOLD-UP”
BOY CHARGED WITH ASSAULT EXPERIENCE AT NEW PLYMOUTH. SEVERE WARNING BY MAGISTRATE BIG BAMBOO STICK PRODUCED. The affair at the home of Mr. R. O-' Goddin, at the corner of Gill and Hobson Streets, New Plymouth, on the night of August 24, when Mr. Goddin on answering a ring at the front door was confronted by a person whose features were concealed by a scarf and cap, had its sequel in the Children’s Court on Saturday when a youth of years was charged with assault on Robert Ord Goddin, and with being an idle and disorderly person in that he was found in possession of a bludgeon. The youth was placed under the supervision of the child welfare officer for two years and his father was ordered to pay the medical expenses of a member of Mr. Goddin’s family, who was so upset by the affair that she had to receive medical attention. Mr. J-. H. Sheat represented the youth. Detective A. B Meiklejohn prosecuted. It was stated that the youth had been dared by some companions to undertake the action that resulted in his appearance before the court. Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., gave the youth a severe warning. The bludgeon referred to in the charge, a thick piece of green bamboo, half an inch short of three feet in length, was produced in court.
