NEW PLYMOUTH TRACK

LITTLE FAST GALLOPING. HEADMISTRESS PERFORMS WELL. The tracks at New Plymouth were in good order for the work on Saturday morning, when all the galloping took place on the plough. Most of the horses with engagements at Wanganui next Thursday and Saturday were sent along, acquitting themselves well. Headmistress was going better than Superior at the conclusion of a mile in lm. 1645. Headmistress ran a good race on the first day of the hunt meeting apd appears to have gone the right way in the interval. Superior is not doing as well as expected and her Guineas prospects do not look bright. Orapai and Leo Colossus were associated over half a mile in 51s. They loafed over the first part but came home in great style. With the hunter Ngareta as a mate Ythan (H. Dulieu) was given his first schooling. The pair jumped two brush hurdles .-down the back, Ythan giving a satisfactory display for a novice. Courtega on her own took lm. 61s. for five furlongs. She was not hurried over the first part but was going strongly at the end. With Tahurangi as a companion, the two-year-old Grateful was given barrier practice, acquitting himself splendidly. He will contest the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui next Saturday, when he should give a good account of himself. Glenvane and General Quex did two solid rounds at half-pace on the plough. The latter hit out in a pleasing fashion and his action appears to be improving. Glenvane, who has only recently been recommissioned, is a bit on the burly side as yet. Lalla Quex and Davistock pleased over five furlongs in lm. 6 2-ss. Both put a lot of dash into their work in the straight. Ngapapa was sent twice round at halfpace, sprinting up the straight the second time. Useful tasks were carried out by Red Fox, Bonny Glow, Lady Kyra and Jacana.
