RECORD CYCLING ATTEMPT
AUCKLAND TO WELLINGTON. An attempt to break the cycling record from Auckland to Wellington is to be started from Auckland at 7 a.m. tomorrow by Gordon Lukey, a prominent Christchurch professional cyclist. He hopes to break the existing record held by Stan Wright, Wellington, of 56 hours 5 minutes total time. Wright left Auckland at 8 a.m. on the Thursday and arrived at Wellington at 4.5 p.m. on the Saturday. Lukey hopes to make his first ride from Auckland to Inglewood, approximately 40 miles, and the second day’s ride will be on to Wellington. Wright made three stages of the ride, Auckland-Awakino-Wanganui-Wellington. Lukey hopes to reach Inglewood before midnight on Tuesday and would appreciate any cyclists or motorists meeting him.
