KAPONGA CHEESE QUALITY

DOMINION RECORD CLAIMED. ■7O PER CENT OF FINEST CHEESE. . Claiming a Dominion record for a company producing the same quantity of cheese from a similar number of branch factories, the Kaponga. Dairy Company . has released information about the quality of cheese produced last season. In the three factories the amount of finest was 70.9 per cent., first 29.03 per cent, and second .07 per cent, of a total of 24,338 crates 17,246 was finest, 7,074 first-and only 19 second.. This is a great improvement oh the previous year, the respective figures for which were 22,707 total, 10,259 finest, 12,409 first and 33 second. The Kaponga factory showed, the largest amount of finest, ” the percentage being 89.03, Riverlea being next with 65. G per cent, and Rowan third with 40.5 per cent. At Rowan, however, there was not a single crate of second grad?. The average grade for the whole Kaponga output was 93.024, which shows a considerable improvement on the previous year, when it was 92.8. ■ 1 . In the amount of second grade milk received the figures are also claimed to be a record, the amounts being: Kaponga, .44 per cent., Riverlea, .70 per cent., Rowan, 1.48 per cent. CHURCH PATRONAL FESTIVAL. SERVICES AT ST. MARY’S. ■The patronal festival of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Hawera, the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, was celebrated at Hawera ' yesterday With special services. Special, conununion services .were held in the morning, -followed by a communicants’ breakfast. A children’s festival service was held at 11 a.m. and festal evensong was celebrated at 7 p.m., the ■ preacher being the Diocesan missioner, .Canon H. Watson. Different organisations of the parish joined in the morning in the corporate communion, and members of the country congregations were present at evensong. The vicar, the Rev. H. Whitby. James, conducted the services. The services all < day. were taken by Canon Watson, who was . present at the. original dedication festival of the church. Both communion services were choral. Over 200 members made communion at the second celebration and 160 sat down later to the breakfast. The hall was decorated with spring flowers and in white and blue, the church colours. The children’s service was very well attended. ■ Canon Watson was again preacher at evensong, taking as his subject the character of St. Mary. ■ The ■ choir sang-a choral setting of the Te Deum, . and Gounod’s anthem “Send out Thy Light.
