HURWORTH SOCIAL EVENTS

SOCIAL FOR OKEY FAMILY. There was an excellent attendance at the flag five-hundred held in the Hurworth hall recently. The evening was arranged by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, and Mrs. Balsom, Mangorei, conducted the games. At the winning table, were Messrs. Salisbury, Balsom, Ruse and P. Adlam. While the consolation prizes went to Mrs. R. Allan and Messrs.. Baker, J. Burkett , and Draviski. A social evening Was tendered Mr. and Mrs. H. Okey, Who were unfortunate enough to lose their belongings when their house was destroyed by fire recently. Songs were contributed by Messrs. Eva and E. Andrews. A one-act play by four young women was applauded. Mr. Farmer asked Mr. and Mrs. Okey to accept a cheque from the settlers of the district. Mr. Okey replied. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs. King assisted by Misses I. Lee and M. King. Mr. Farmer was master of ceremonies. Supper was provided under the direction of Mesdames P. Gilbert and E. Pepperell. Three -houses are in the course of erection on upper Carrington Road, one each for Messrs. H. Okey, Taylor and Roper, the two last named having purchased the farm recently owned by Mr. F. Baker. Measles are still seriously affecting the school attendance. Miss D. Reid, who has been staying with Mr. and Mrs. Fanner, has left for Potururu. Miss .Cornwell is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. J. Burkett, Carrington Road. Miss I. Gleye is staying with Mrs. H. Farmer.
