GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER
WOMAN THAT SHOT HER HUSBAND. JUDGE COMMENTS ON VERDICT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 8.55 p.m. Sydney, Sept. 7. The third trial of Mrs. Lilian Anderson for the murder of her husband on May 18 near Wagga Wagga was concluded at Wagga Wagga to-day, the jury on this occasion returning a verdict of manslaughter. Anderson was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment Mr. Justice Markell observed when passing sentence that if he had been asked whether he had heard of a worse case ■- of manslaughter his answer would have Km “No e ” The police produced evidence that Mrs. Anderson, unknown to her late husband, carried on correspondence with Edward Morey, who was recently sentenced to death for the murder of Percy Smith, Letters were also writen by Morey item gaol to the accused woman. Moncrieff Anderson, aged 33, a Crown witness in the trial of Edward Henry Morey, on a charge of murdering Percy Smith, was shot in the head on May IL Mrs. Anderson, his wife, was then arrested and charged with attempted murder. She was remanded for eight days. Anderson .died later and she was then charged with murder. Anderson was with his wife and child drawing water from a horse trough in a lane when the shot was fired. Morey was found guilty of the murder of Smith and was sentenced to death. Morey denied the murder and said that bloodstains found on his clothing were due to his accidentally cutting himself. Smith’s body was found terribly injured and had apparently been in the river for some time. At the previous trials the juries disagreed.
