DAFFODILL DAY SUCCESS.

VICTORIA LEAGUE EFFORT. Transformed by a profusion of scented flowers and pretty articles for sale, the Victoria League room at New Plymouth presented a most attractive appearance for the annual daffodil day yesterday. Mrs. C. H. Burgess acted as hostess. The principal stall, a riot of yellow blooms, was supported by others, on which articles for sale were attractively displayed. There was a large attendance during the afternoon, with the result that good business was done. Competitions were won as follow: Pochette (No. 2), Mrs. Shorney (Auckland); turkey, Mrs. S. F. Burgess; ham, Mrs. M. Campbell; stool (No. 1), Mrs. P. White; stool (No. 2), Mrs. S. G. Dinniss; cake, Mrs. P. J. Knight; negress, Miss J. Curtis; apron, Mrs. G. J. Morrall; shoe trees, Mrs. Gentles; fem, Mrs. Young; leather pochette, Mrs. Martin; sweets, Miss Godfrey. Stall-holders were: Flowers, Mesdames J. L. Walton and M. Armstrong; produce, Mesdames P. G. Knight, P. Hoby and I. Roy; cakes, Mesdames F. Whitcombe and H. Edgecombe; fancy work, Mesdames H. Avery, Poynter, Shorter and members of the sewing circle; handkerchiefs, Mesdames V. Smith and R. H. Sarten and Miss E. Rawson; sweets, Miss M. Thomson (convener), and members of the Whakarato Girls’ Club; jumble, Mesdames G. C. Neal and S. F. Burgess; afternoon tea, Mesdames J, G. Brash, V. H. Beal, N. B. Bellringer, Goodall, and members of the house committee; doorkeeper, Mrs. Young.
