WORK ON TARANAKI FARMS
NEW BASIS LIKELY TO BE FOUND.
FURTHER STAGE IN NEGOTIATION.
(By Wire— Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night. A new basis is likely to be reached for work being carried out on farms in Taranaki with unemployed labour. Mr. W. J. Polson, member for Stratford, has been conducting a campaign against the discrimination displayed by the Lands Department in Taranaki in favour of Crown mortgagors only in the use of relief funds for stumping and draining, and a further stage, has been reached by the receipt by ll|r. Polson of a letter from the acting-Minister of Employment, the Hon. J. A. Young, stating that the Unemployment Board has taken the.matter up with the Government departments concerned with a view to amending the basis upon' which these works are being carried out by requiring a reasonable contribution towards the labour cost to be provided by the occupier or the State mortgagee on his behalf.
