INGLEWOOD BOY KILLED
PINNED UNDER FALLING TREE
ACCIDENT WHEN WOOD GATHERING
BROTHER ALSO RECEIVES INJURY.
Ray Kenneth Hen wood, aged 15, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John William Henwood, Mountain Road, Inglewood, was killed instantly in a tree-felling accident at ; Ins parents’ farm yesterday. His brother, Clarence Henwood, aged 13, was injured and was removed to the New Plymouth public hospital for observation. Kenneth Henwood went to gather firewood on his parents’ farm yesterday morning. He climbed 40 feet up a pine tree and lassoed a stump 30 feet high, standing 12 feet away. The tree which Henwood climbed had a thick trunk to 12 feet high and then branched out in two forks. Henwood was about 30 feet up one of those forks. The stump he lassoed was rotten and fell, striking the cleft in the tree on a fork of which Henwood was. This brushed the branch to the ground, and Henwood, clingmg to it in its fall, was pinned underneath and killed. Clarence Henwood was struck by a falling branch and was later removed to the hospital for observation. He had complained of stomach pains. Dr H. McAllum and Constable A. Quin were called. Nothing could be done for Kenneth Henwood. An inquest will be opened to-day for identification purposes before Mr. W. L. Kennedy, J.P.. Stratford.
